treatments used
acupuncture
Acupuncture is an element of traditional Chinese medicine where small needles are inserted into specific points on the body to stimulate the ‘qi’ or flow of energy throughout the body. Acupuncture has been used for centuries for numerous different ailments, from insomnia to indigestion, anxiety, aches and pains, and more!
botanical medicine
Botanical medicine is a powerful naturopathic modality that can treat various ailments such as indigestion, pain, insomnia, hormonal issues, cardiovascular issues, liver issues and more. In my clinic I incorporate herbs into a treatment using teas, tinctures, supplements, or topical creams, depending on the needs of the patient. This is a very versatile, and very effective medicine.
nutrition
Good nutrition is the foundation to good health. The health of our body starts with what we put in it, and for this reason nutrition is a major component of naturopathic medicine. Optimizing your nutrition based on your goals and health needs is an important part of every naturopathic treatment.
counselling
Healthy living isn’t only an external concept. Our mental and emotional health can have a powerful impact on our physical health, and vice versa. As such, it is important that these aspects of your health are addressed. If a person can feel heard and supported throughout their treatment, they are more likely to be successful reaching their goals. (*note: Naturopathic doctors do not have the extensive training of a psychologist or clinical counselor and cannot replace these health care providers)
homeopathy
Homeopathy is a form of individualized medicine that was discovered over 200 years ago. Each remedy is used for very specific situations, and take into account the uniqueness of each patient’s symptom presentation. Homeopathy is very safe for all ages, and can be very helpful when prescribed by a properly trained professional.
physical medicine
Naturopathic doctors are trained numerous physical medicine modalities, such as chiropractic adjustments, soft tissue work, hydrotherapy, cupping and more. Physical medicine is one of the best tools for muscle/joint pain and weakness, but it also an important consideration for anxiety, insomnia, and headaches as well!
nutraceuticals
Supplementation with certain vitamins, minerals, omega 3 fatty acids and other nutrients may be of benefit for certain conditions. These nutrients are often used to help bring balance to the body. Nutraceuticals are used to help with mood, joint pain, stress, sleep, fatigue, and more.
iv nurtient therapy
IV therapy is used to deliver nutrients directly to the bloodstream, bypassing the digestive tract where they are usually absorbed. Therefore, IV therapy is useful for those with impaired intestinal absorption (such as celiac or IBD patients) or to aid the body in fighting or preventing infection.
pharmaceuticals
As a naturopathic physician it is important to be able to meet the health needs of all my patients. As such, I have taken additional training and am certified by the College of Naturopathic Physicians of B.C. to prescribe various medications within our scope of practice, including antibiotics, antidepressants, and thyroid medication.
